The Thika renal Unit, located in Thika Level 5 hospital with a bed capacity of 7 dialysis patients, became operational in November 2015 and operates between 8.00am to 5.00 pm daily, excluding National holidays. The facility is a plus in timely detection of the disease at an early stage before the chronicity sets in.
Services offered at the renal unit are cost effective for the patient. For the dialysis patients, they get to enjoy cost sharing having the NHIF membership card at a cost
of Ksh.2500 for NHIF patients and Ksh.6000 for non NHIF patients.The dialysis
machines conducts dialysis to 10 kidney patients daily.
Patients’
treatment waiting time within and outside the County has been reduced,
noting that it is located within the county, unlike before when most
patients would travel to Kenyatta national Hospital.
Kiambu county is also offering a wide variety of family dentistry care using the latest
state-of-the-art technology in their
level-4 hospitals. They have also
introduced top quality and personalized dental care in a number of its
hospitals. Dental sets have already been delivered to Thika Level 5
Hospital, Karuri and Githunguri Level 4 Hospitals.
Plans to provide a full range of dental procedures
that include dental implants, highly effective laser & cosmetic dentistry
solutions are currently on progress.The new facilities
include an extensive array of cosmetic, restorative and general dentistry
solutions to maintain excellent oral health.
Kiambu County, under the leadership of His Excellency Governor William Kabogo plans to establish a kidney
transplant, treatment and health research center. The county is also going to train more health care
workers in Kidney disease and the screening of renal impairment at
grassroots/community level.
